Founder of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy (The Mercedarian Order)Special Liturgies at 6:30 am, 6:00 pm, and 10:00 pm Peter Nolasco was born in Mas-Saintes-Puelles, France, about the year 1180. As a young man, he went to live in Barcelona, Spain, and there dedicated himself to works of mercy, especially for the redemption of captives. Through divine inspiration on August 10, 1218, he founded the Order of Our Lady of Mercy for the redemption of captives and established lay-confraternities for the purpose of helping the religious in their work of redemption. He carried out several redemptions and was always ready to give his own life for the freedom of captives in danger of denying their faith. He died on May 6, 1249. For more information...
